Joomla Website Development

Joomla!

One of the Content Management Systems (CMS) we use to develop client websites is the award winning Joomla! CMS.

There are many reasons it’s popular. From a client perspective it's easy to use, even for non-technical people, and being open source, it’s freely available to everyone. This means you avoid the expensive developer costs of custom-built platforms. You also avoid incurring additional costs should you decide to move away from your original developer.

Channel’s developers have a lot of experience with Joomla, working with it on a daily basis to design and build a variety of sites in every iteration of its development from 1.0, 1.5 up to the current 2.5 version, which we have used as the platform for our own new website. We are also currently getting to grips with the upcoming version 3.0 which we expect to go live later this year.

As well as being easy to use, requiring only a little training to get the most out of it, it is also highly scalable. So, if this is your very first website, it is possible to start with only the most basic of sites, containing just a few features, making it exceptionally simple to use and update with only the minimum of training. Then, as you grow in confidence and want to build additional features into your site, you can begin to look at the wide array of plugins and extensions that are out there – many of them free to use.

For the more experienced website owner, you can begin almost at once, setting up your site with a wide variety of different plugins, some of which I have listed below. Our developers are also very familiar with many more plugins and are happy to discuss what’s available that will meet your own specific requirements.

Types of Joomla plugins:

  • photos
  • music
  • video
  • documents
  • shopping carts
  • user forums
  • blogging
  • membership directories
  • social media feeds

Examples of Joomla Extensions:

  • Google Maps
  • Virtuemart
  • Kunena
  • YouTube
  • Docman

If we can’t find an existing plugin that fits what you need, our Joomla developers are also skilled programmers, who can creating your own bespoke Joomla plugin or extension for you – although we will always try to find an alternative (cheaper!) solution first.

With our expert knowledge, as well as developing websites in Joomla, we also support clients who manage their own Joomla sites but may want additional training in using this CMS. We also offer consultancy services on how best to develop your website further, drawing on our knowledge of the extensive range of Joomla plugins and extensions available.

As a fully integrated digital marketing company, we also carry out Joomla SEO for our clients to ensure their sites perform well in terms of search engine page rankings (that is, getting onto Page 1 of Google!). Visit the Digital Marketing section of our website if you would like to learn more about how we can make Joomla SEO work for you.
